Local talent to warm up crowd for stars
Every concert needs a bit of local talent.
Rivah, Ramon Clarke and Hype Type are coming out to warm up the crowd before international stars Leroy Gibbons and Tony Curtis get on stage tomorrow night.
“We certainly have a wealth of talent on the Island and I think it’s a great opportunity to expose a wider array of individuals to their music,” said Declan Harris, the co-promoter of the Veterans in Action concert.
“It’s a platform for them to be able to share what they are producing and what Bermuda is producing, and it’s a perfect segue into the international acts.”
The local performers are more than capable of holding their own. They have showcased their talents in the shadow of reggae stars Luciano, Bounty Killer, Buju Banton, Beenieman and Taurus Riley.
“The fans can expect a spirited performance that’s sure to get the crowd warmed up and in the dancing mood,” Mr Harris said.
The show also features local DJs Jugglin J, Three the Hard Way and Black Star.
“Once again we have quality, veteran performers to sing the night away,” Mr Harris said.
“Both have solid catalogues of music and people will be familiar with many of the songs that they sing, as well as many of the renditions that they perform, because both of them do a lot of covers.
“Both of them are known more for being cover artists than anything else. They do a lot of R&B covers; they do their own spin on those things.
“There will be songs in a reggae style that the crowd will be quite familiar with, so there will be a lot of singing along.”
The annual show is aimed at “the more mature reggae fan”, Mr Harris added.
“They feel comfortable coming out because they know it’s going to be a mature crowd and it’s going to be a positive vibe. They don’t have to worry about all the other ills we have going on around us.
“It’s one night when they can come out and let loose a bit and feel comfortable.”
