The Fairmont Southampton was rammed last weekend with an audience hungry to hear The Company Men’s unique brand of reimagined pop and classic medleys.

This slick, four-man vocal group has shared stages with Mariah Carey, Chaka Khan and Sheena Easton, to name but a few, so we knew we were in for a top-class performance.

Their dashing good looks and tight dance routines were enough to give any modern pop group a run for their money, and their cheeky boy-band parodies — which fell on the right side of cheesy — were embraced wholeheartedly by an enthusiastic audience.

The set list took us through a magical musical menu, spanning the decades of the past 60 years. The audience was introduced to mash-ups, delicious combinations of songs — Katy Perry’s Firework was melded with the Four Tops’ Reach Out I’ll Be There; Adele’s Hello was stirred in with a sprinkling of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers’ Free falling.

We covered around 50 songs in just 90 minutes and you couldn’t help but move in your seat thanks to the boys’ infectious energetic performances. The whole group was note-perfect. Standout vocals came from Terron Brooks — who has played Simba in Disney’s The Lion King, on Broadway. His soulful, smooth, chocolatey tones are something I could have gorged on well into the wee, small hours.

Unfortunately, the show was a little on the short side; clearly they were adhering to the adage “always leave them wanting more”. Music-lovers will just have to wait for their return to the island for a second (and hopefully much larger) helping!
