The Bermuda National Gallery has appointed a new treasurer and board of trustees member.

Susan Monkman brings to the roles a great deal of knowledge of accounting in the private and charitable sectors, according to BNG chairman Gary Phillips.

Ms Monkman grew up in Atlanta, and met her Bermudian husband at the University of Georgia, and moved to the island when she graduated.

She worked in the reinsurance industry and then moved on to deal with trusts and charities.

Ms Monkman said: "I have been very fortunate to have found a career in which I could continually develop my skills and knowledge while helping others achieve financial security.

“I am pleased to bring my investment and financial experience to the Bermuda National Gallery board of trustees.

“The appointment offers me a tremendous opportunity to expand my education in art appreciation through working with the talented members of the board, their initiatives and the membership of the gallery."

Mr Phillips said: “As a registered charity and one of the few art institutions certified to the highest standards by Bermuda National Standards Committee, I am delighted to welcome Sue, who I am confident, through fiscal prudence, will competently respect and manage the investments of those corporate donors and individual sponsors who support the exhibition and art educational programming of Bermuda National Gallery.”
