A dynamic and unsettling story
This Isn’t Happening by Anna Snoekstra (16+)
Immerse yourself into Margot’s determined revenge story in Snoekstra’s chilling cat-and-mouse novella, This Isn’t Happening.
In this thrilling tale, Margot — a scholarship law student — attempts to get her revenge on her privileged classmate and ex-lover, Sam, who took everything from her.
This suspenseful Audible Original begins when Sam invites Margot to a fancy French dinner, and though she is unsure of his reasoning, uses this as a prime opportunity to even the score and enact her revenge.
However, it seems that Sam could have his own vengeance planned out as well. As the night progresses, it becomes worryingly clear that Margot could be the one in the most danger after all.
With Margot reading into every minute detail of their interactions to unearth Sam’s true intentions, and Sam acting increasingly restless and bizarre, this edgy audiobook will surely keep you on your toes trying to predict who will win this high-stakes battle of wits.
Sam’s suspicious demeanour throws Margot off-balance, and she must improvise and play a part to avoid being caught (if she hasn’t already been discovered).
What makes this novella so tense is that neither Margot nor the listener have any idea of Sam’s plans.
His typical charming persona is entirely absent from his evening with Margot, and it is impossible to know why until the shocking ending that has left fans divided.
I found Snoekstra’s This Isn’t Happening to be a compelling short read (or listen, rather) with so many twists and turns that I couldn’t help but listen to it all again with the new-found perspective of someone who knows what’s behind Sam’s anxious smile!
For those who would like a dynamic and unsettling story to keep them entertained, or those who simply want to try something new, I’m happy to recommend this new work from up-and-coming author Anna Snoekstra.
