Riley wins $20K award
Basketball player Tejour Riley has beaten 17 other applicants for the Digicel Scholarship for Sports Award, receiving $20,000 towards his university studies, writes Derek deChabert.Riley, 17, recently graduated from Metropolitan Prepratory in Ontario after completing his schooling in political science and will now attend McGill –University in Montreal, Quebec to do a double major in the same subject along with English.He also received an $18,000 scholarship to attend Metro Prep. last year and competed in the first ever Thanksgiving Classic with his school.“I am honoured to get this scholarship,” said Riley. “I want to let everyone know that I will try my hardest to make sure everyone is proud of me and I will promise to shine when the lights the brightest.”Riley appears to have a bright future ahead of him in basketball, having been named as the top prospect at the 2011 Hoop Mountain Showcase in Pennsylvania.Having five schools chasing his signature, it was McGill which was the youngster’s choice.Riley can play either point guard or shooting guard and is a member of the Under-18 and senior national teams.
