Crumpler turns to experienced players for Classic
Chris Crumpler has high expectations ahead of the Bermuda Thanksgiving Classic that starts tomorrow which will see overseas high schools travel to local shores to compete in the competition.Event organiser Crumpler is looking to continue where the Classic left off last year, bringing in three schools from North America. With the first tip off a day away, the Bermuda international is anxious to get the ball bouncing while staying within the budget which has been heavily reduced from last year's.“Preparations are coming along, we are excited because things are in place and we are staying within the budget,” said Crumpler. “Money has been cut big time from last year but we have manage to still create a quality event with new sponsors and volunteers.“Without the people of Bermuda who gave their time to make this happen this event would not be possible.”The tournament will see a new format introduced and will be run over a three-day period, November 24 to 26, and will be contested by four teams including a Bermuda Select, with games to be played at the Berkeley InstituteTeams in this year's Classic include Northwood High School from Shreveport, Louisiana, Boca Raton High, Florida and Georgetown District High from Ontario, with the trio set to lock horns with an experienced Bermuda select team in a round robin format.Given the young age of most of the players that will be showcased throughout the competition, Crumpler is intrigued to see how they get on, with the Classic being some of the teams' first action this season.“This is the first taste for all teams to start their High school season,” said Crumpler.“We have three respected programs with quality coaches who have all been at their respective programs for years.“This year's Bermuda team is the most experienced team that has ever competed before along side national team coaches, so we believe that we have the formula to give our boys the most success.“I am truly excited and I look forward to being a fan and watching some exciting live basketball action.”Bermuda Select: Juron Tucker, Khaivon Castro, Rashon Tankard, Josh Liyange, Jordan Rego, Lucas Barbey, Karim O'Conner, Phillip Burgess, Donovan Livingston, Anthony Furbert, Troy Fox jr, Jahkil Perinchief, Daniel Heintzman
