Santos inducted into Hall of Fame

Ricky Santos was honoured recently inducted into the Rhode Island Interscholastic League (RIIL) Hall of Fame by the league’s committee for his performances while attending Central High School more than 40 years ago.The Bermudian was acknowledged along with 13 others at half-time of the Rhode Island State High School basketball championships for his role in two title-winning teams for the Providence school.A two time first team All-State selection, Santos led the Knights to their first two undefeated seasons in 1969 and 1970, never losing a high school basketball game in his career. He was a Junior College All-American at the Community College of Rhode Island and went to Providence College where he was captain of the 1975 Friar team.“I was surprised to get inducted but I knew that the team I played on was a special one given we hadn’t lost a game in years,” said Santos.“I played pretty good back then but to be honoured along with the rest of the inductees was a privilege.“This doesn’t happen too often so I enjoyed the moment and thank everyone who was involved in making this happen.”Santos is also a member of both the Community Colleges of Rhode Island (1985) and New England Basketball Halls of Fame (2003).
