Phillips’ Prievidza level series
Sullivan Phillips and BC Prievidza levelled their best of five series against Komarno, coming from behind to beat them 84-70 in the Slovakian Men’s National Basketball Finals.BC Prievidza overcame a five point half-time deficit before running away with the game thanks to a 46-27 second half run.The second game had a similar pattern as the first game, with the loser at the half making a second period surge to grab the spoils, which saw Komarno win 83-77.Prievidza forced 20 Komarno turnovers and outrebounded them 41-30 including a 17-6 advantage in offensive rebounds, while the losers were plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch.Phillips helped himself to 21 points, two rebounds, two assists and two steals.“The series so far has been quite interesting,” said Phillips. “Both teams have won on their home courts, so it sets up for an exciting game three in their arena.“The next game really could tell who will win. For us to win means we could close out the series at home next Wednesday, so it’s a lot up for grabs on Saturday. For us the next game is a must win.”British swingman Paul Guede orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 29 points and 10 rebounds.Phillips went 7-for-10 from the field and 7-of-8 from the free throw line in 29 minutes of action.Prievidza have beaten Nitra and Levice to reach the Slovakian final. Play resumes next Wednesday at Komarno.
