Patrick join LSU as assistant coach

Bermuda’s David Patrick will join the LSU men’s basketball coaching staff this year after the two parties agreed to a deal that will see him become their assistant coach.The Southeastern Conference (SEC) university is better known for their powerhouse football programme, but have had recent success on the hardwood.Patrick most recently served as a scout for the Houston Rockets after serving as a coach at Saint Mary’s and Nicholls State.“We are definitely excited about the addition of David Patrick to our staff,” said LSU head coach Jones.“He will not only be able to help us with game planning and practice preparation, but we look forward to him helping to raise our level of recruiting at LSU, both regionally as well as nationally.“With his background in both Division I and professional basketball, he brings a level of experience to our program that will help us to move forward.”Patrick replaces Shawn Forrest, who came with Jones from North Texas but stepped down earlier this month for what were termed personal reasons.He joins assistants Robert Kirby and Charlie Leonard and director of basketball operations Tom Kelsey on Jones’ staff.Patrick served three years as an assistant coach for the Saint Mary’s men’s basketball team, following one season as the director of basketball operations for the Gaels.He joined Saint Mary’s in 2006 from Nicholls State where he served as a volunteer coach for the 2005-06 season.In 2010 Patrick helped guide the Gaels men’s team to the ‘Sweet 16’ in the NCAA tournament before crashing out to Big 12 conference school Baylor University.He attended Saltus Grammar School until he was 10 when he moved to Australia and played for the Australian junior national team.Patrick then spent one season at Syracuse University where he was a member of the 1996 NCAA Final Four team that finished as the national runner-up.He then transferred to the University of Louisiana-Lafayette where he played for three seasons. Following his collegiate playing days, Patrick went to Australia to play for the Canberra.Following his collegiate playing days at Syracuse University where he played in the NCAA Final Four Championships, Patrick went to play for Australian side Canberra Cannons of the National Basketball League from 1999-200.He then joined the Chester Jets of England’s British Basketball League for the 2001-02 season, where he garnered second team all-league honours.His final professional season was spent in Spain where he was a member of Alcora team in the LEB1 league from 2002-03.
