Bluebirds and Panthers extend winning run
Defending champions Bluebirds and Fort Knox Panthers stretched their unbeaten records to two games during Wednesday night’s CellOne Elite City League basketball action at Somersfield Academy.Bluebirds defeated league newcomers Robin Hood Warriors 53-46 while Panthers clawed their way to an emphatic 82-54 win against Storm.Two-time defending league champs Bluebirds got off to a sluggish start against Warriors before they eventually found their groove to cling to a six-point lead at the half.Bluebirds also outscored their rivals in the second half to come away with a reasonably comfortable win against Warriors who remain winless.Mike Smith scored 17 points and Dion Easton added 16 to lead Bluebirds to victory. Warriors’ Kellen Beckham also had a game high 17 points while team-mate Nate Holland chipped in with 15.The remaining match saw Panthers sweep Storm off the court in a lopsided affair.The teams were tied at 39-39 at the half before Panthers eventually cut loose and left their rivals toiling in their wake.Ronnie Bushner led the Panthers scoring with a game high 28 points while Steven Simons scored 23 in a losing cause for the Storm who were making their first appearance of the new season.CellOne Elite City League action continues at Somersfield Academy tomorrow with Flanagan’s taking on Trinity Sound Lions (7:30pm) and Panthers doing battle with Bluebirds (8.45pm).
