Spotlight turns to local youth

The annual Thanksgiving Basketball Classic kicks off tonight with a double-header at the Berkeley Institute gymnasium.

The holiday tournament, hosted by the Bermuda Basketball Association (BBA) in association with Bermuda Basketball Youth Programmes (BBYP), will feature four teams battling for bragging rights.

Although two international sides cancelled their plans to come to local shores, those who will be in attendance will be looking to impress.

Competing in the tournament will be Stanstead College from Quebec, and Wolfpack ‘NBA’ Division All-Stars, along with local sides BBYP Showcase and the Bermuda Under-19.

“While the Bermuda Under-19 have had a few training challenges in the build-up to the tournament, I’m sure they will be more than up to the task come Friday night,” Tim Trott, organiser of the event, said.

Stanstead College visited the Island last year and competed against CedarBridge Academy and Bermuda Under-19. They also have matches against Saltus Grammar School and Hurricanes Basketball Club while on the island.

Tonight’s action will involve the BBYP Showcase side taking on the Wolfpack at 7pm, with Bermuda Under-19 tipping off against Stanstead College at 8pm.
