Stanstead depart unscathed

Stanstead College ended the Thanksgiving Basketball Classic unbeaten, having won both of their matches at the Berkeley Institute gymnasium over the weekend.

Stanstead, located in Quebec, got successive wins over Bermuda Under-19. They won 54-43 last Friday night before winning the second match on Saturday 71-60.

While the scoreline of both games suggests that they had things their own way, it was far from the truth. Leading 34-23 at half-time in the first encounter, the visiting side were pegged back by a late revival, thanks in large part to Marcus Robinson (15 points) and Raushon Tankard (ten), with their lead cut to six with less than two minutes left.

Perfect free-throw shooting would seal the victory, however. Julien Stacey (26) and Roydell Clarke (21) were the top scorers in the match.

In the second game in as many days, the local side could not erase another half-time deficit, this time a seven-point gap.

Again, the composure of the Canadian team proved to be the difference, as they made seven of eight free throws down the stretch.

Clarke (33) and Stacey (26) were again the chief destroyers. Robinson and Dion Easton each had 19 points for the home side.

Wolfpack West beat the East 32-28 on Friday, with Evin Scott-Mosley leading the winners with six points. But the East rebounded to take the rematch 17-15.
