Skills camp for youngsters

After a successful time at the Montreal Hoop Experience last week, Team Hurricane Basketball Academy is putting on the Team Hurricane-Global Squad Invitational Skills Camp at the Bermuda College this weekend.

The camp started yesterday will continue today and tomorrow.

In keeping with its mission to provide the best competitive experience for student-athletes who want to pursue a college education, Team Hurricane has aligned with Alexander Basketball Academy to hold this weekend’s camp.

The fostering of such relationships serves to benefit Bermuda’s student-athletes as Team Hurricane works with other basketball academies experienced in bringing international players to US college coaches.

Alexander Basketball Academy (ABA) is a basketball training organisation dedicated to helping athletes achieve their basketball-related goals and reach the next level.

For nearly ten years, ABA players have reached their highest potential by utilising cutting-edge training techniques and a distinctive coaching style that stresses physical improvement, mental growth, and leadership.

Alexander Basketball Academy is led by John Alexander, who played four years of college basketball at Washington College in Chestertown, Maryland, where he was captain and three-times Defensive Player of the Year.

Alexander has been training high school, college, and professional players for nearly ten years and has over 40 players who have made it to the NCAA level. Basketball is definitely a family affair as Alexander’s brother Joe was a 2008 NBA first round draft pick of the Milwaukee Bucks out of West Virginia University.

“Doug Reed and Kent Tacklyn of Team Hurricane have been gracious enough to allow the Global Squad coaches to run this invitational camp in order to scout, recruit, invited NCAA level talent from Bermuda to attend the Global Squad,” said Alexander.

Doug Reed, the founder and head coach, is excited about Team Hurricane’s first ever skills camp. He said: “This programme highlights the Team Hurricane Basketball Academy’s ability to provide a platform in which student-athletes can train, develop and reach their academic and athletic potential.

“As a result, I wish to take the time to thank all of those who have contributed to our programmes and initiatives for 2014-2015: ABWilson Photography, Ace Group, Allied World Assurance, Argus Group, Butterfield & Vallis, FIL Limited, Jardine Matheson International Services, Orbis, Tokio Millenium, Validus RE, XL Group, Zurich Insurance Company, as well as our individual donors. Such support allows Team Hurricane to continue to develop the youth of Bermuda through sports and education.”
