Weekend of narrow defeats for Bermuda
Bermuda’s basketball team lost 78-73 to Barbados in the seventh-place game in the Caribbean Confederation Championship at the Multi-Purpose Sports Complex in the British Virgin Islands yesterday.
Bermuda trailed the closely-fought game by just two points with 52.9sec of the game remaining, but were unable to close the gap any further.
The two teams exchanged the lead several times throughout the game, with Bermuda leading 68-60 with 7:06 left on the clock, before Barbados went on a run of 13 unanswered points.
Chris Crumpler led the scoring for Bermuda with a game-high 27 points. Jonathan Lowe and Steven Simons each added 11 points, with John Lee grabbing ten rebounds.
On Saturday, Bermuda came back from 19 points down to take a one-point lead over St Vincent and the Grenadines with less than a minute remaining — only to lose 74-73 in the first reclassification game.
Crumpler scored 23 points for Bermuda, while Steven Simons and Yusef Riley both reached double figures.
