Belco Bangers assume top spot in basketball league
It’s all change at the top of the Bermuda Basketball Association League as the regular season draws to a close.
Belco Bangers moved to to the top of the league after a 61-49 win over Kings in the latest round of matches and are now tied with Young Goatz. Both sides have two matches left and are looking to finish strongly ahead of the playoffs.
John Lee, the Bangers captain, is pleased to see that their efforts are not in vain.
“It’s gratifying to come out each week, put in work and to be rewarded with the top position in the league,’’ Lee said.
“It’s also good that the results of the work that we’re putting in is reflected in our position in the league.”
Reflecting on the season, Lee stated that it has been satisfying since they have not had all the players available.
“It’s been a good season and we had to change our team a lot because of people injured or off the island,’’ he added.
“We’re yet to play a game with our full team roster because some of our main players are recovering from injury.
“Jordan Knight, Steveland Brown-Darrell, and Damian Henry are three core veterans who have been nursing injuries but we expect to have them back for the play-off campaign.
“We have a couple of youngsters who are playing really well. We have Kai Lowery and Jacinto Saints. Kai starts at point guard and Jacinto comes off the bench as the sixth man.
“Both of the young players are contributing really well. Our veteran players are filling the gaps when needed depending on who we play. Our MVP at the moment is Josué Tapia.
“We have a good balance of experience and the youth, and I think we have a good chance of winning title this season.”
“For us as an older team it’s important that we get that bye, and make sure we get no injuries going into the play-offs.
“The focus is to continue work on our team chemistry and our team cohesiveness. If we do that, it will give us a good rhythm going into the play-offs.”
