David Patrick honoured by Dunham School and Sacramento State University
David Patrick joined an elite group after being inducted into the Dunham School Athletics Hall of Fame and named among Sacramento State University’s 2024 Men of Honour awardees.
The Bermudian was inducted into the Dunham School Athletics Hall of Fame during an induction ceremony last week for his outstanding exploits on the basketball court during his senior year at the Baton Rouge, Louisiana, based school in 1995, during which he was named District MVP; First Team All-Parish and Louisiana Player of the Year; as well being selected for the Louisiana State High School All-Star Game.
“Thank you Dunham Athletics and Dunham School for the honour of being inducted into the Hall of Fame,” Patrick commented.
“I had an amazing weekend reuniting with my former team-mates, friends and coaches.”
The Dunham School Athletics Hall of Fame recognises Dunham athletes and coaches who demonstrate the qualities that identify them as champions on and off the field.
Last week’s Hall of Fame induction followed right on the heels of Patrick being named among Sacramento State University’s 2024 Men of Honour awardees at a ceremony in March.
“What an honour to have been named alongside these great men,” he said.
“Leading is not easy. But when it comes from the heart, and done for the right reasons, it’s rewarding to be recognised for good.
“Thanks to all who have been role models for me along my journey.”
Patrick was born in Bermuda before he moved to Australia. He played point guard for the Melbourne Tigers and professionally in the National Basketball League with the Canberra Cannons.
He also had overseas stints in Spain and England and played for Syracuse University as a freshman before transferring to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette after graduating from Dunham School.
Patrick is presently the head coach of the men’s basketball team at Sacramento State University and has also served as an NBA scout and on the coaching staff at the University of Oklahoma; University of Arkansas; St Mary’s College; Nicholls State University; California State University, Sacramento; Louisiana State University; Texas Christian University; University of California, Riverside; and Australia’s men’s team.
The 48-year-old was first appointed as Australia’s assistant coach in 2019 and helped coach the country to its best showing of fourth at the FIBA World Cup as well as a maiden win over the United States in the same year.
Patrick also served as assistant coach of Australia’s men’s team that finished fifth at last summer’s FIBA World Cup in Finland and will continue in the role at this summer’s Olympics in Paris, France.
