David Patrick returns to LSU as associate head coach
David Patrick is on the move again after accepting an offer to return to Louisiana State University as associate head coach.
The Bermudian, who had reignited the programme at Sacramento State University the past two years, joins a staff headed up by Matt McMahon which is expected to challenge for major honours in the elite Southeastern Conference.
Patrick, whose previous head coaching experience was at UC Riverside from 2018 to 2020, compiled a 24-42 record at Sac State. The Hornets finished tenth in the Big Sky Conference after a run to sixth place in 2022-23.
“My wife and her family are from Louisiana, and the opportunity to go home and be the associate head coach at LSU was something I could not turn down,” Patrick said in a news release. “I am indebted to my players, my staff and all of their families for allowing me to lead them on their education and basketball journey. The city and the university will forever be in our hearts.”
MacMahon told ESPN: “He is an outstanding basketball coach and an elite recruiter who has impacted winning at every stop on his journey.
“I love Coach Patrick's investment in player development and in building relationships. He has recruited and helped to develop multiple NBA draft picks throughout his career. I look forward to the new ideas, solutions and energy he will bring to our programme.”
Patrick, who left Bermuda at an early age to live in Australia, is the godfather of Ben Simmons, the former LSU guard, who plays in the NBA with the Brooklyn Nets.
