Butterfield gains 1¢

Butterfield Bank climbed 0.8 percent in Bermuda Stock Exchange trading yesterday to push the local stock market higher.The bank, which declared a $207.6 million loss for 2010 after the market closed, gained one cent to close the day on $1.22, as 28,500 shares changed hands.Insurer BF&M Ltd slipped one cent, or 0.1 percent, to $14, as 2,000 of its shares were traded.Ascendant Group Ltd was the only other domestic board issuer to trade, but remained unchanged on $14.50 as 500 shares were exchanged.The Royal Gazette / BSX Index closed higher by 4.71 points, or 0.42 percent, on 1,117.47. Trading volume was 33,640 and turnover was just shy of $100,000.
