BF&M buoys market
Share price gains for BF&M Ltd and Butterfield Bank pushed The Royal Gazette / Bermuda Stock Exchange (BSX) Index higher last week.Insurer BF&M gained 50 cents, or 3.3 percent, on the trading of 5,000 shares, to close on $15.50.Butterfield’s common shares advanced three cents, or 2.7 percent, to close on $1.13, as 39,000 shares changed hands. The bank’s preferred shares also saw substantial trading activity, with 225 shares being exchanged, as the price remained unchanged on $1,225.Bermuda Press (Holdings) Ltd, the owner of media, printing, retail and real estate interests, including The Royal Gazette, experienced the sharpest fall among domestic-board companies last week. BPH slumped $1.75, or 15.9 percent, on light volume, with 401 shares trading.Telecommunications group KeyTech Ltd also suffered a steep fall, dipping 55 cents to, or 9.2 percent, to close the week on $5.45, as 2,700 shares changed hands.The Index rose 8.8 points, or 0.85 percent, to close on 1,026.82. Volume for the week totalled 49,376 and turnover added up to $142,213.50 in Bermuda dollars and $292,277.60 in US dollars.
