Ascendant Group Limited closed down 25 cents, or 2.9 per cent, at $8.25 after 28,074 changed hands.

On the New York Stock Exchange, Butterfield Bank shares were up 35 cents, or 1.03 per cent, at $34.37.

The BSX Insurance Index was up 11.74 points, or 0.64 per cent, at 1,855.21
