Shares of Ascendant Group, the parent company of Belco, improved by 30 cents, or 3.2 per cent, to $9.80 after 2,000 traded on The Royal Gazette/BSX Index.

Also improving were shares of Butterfield Bank, which were up 75 cents, or 2 per cent, at $38 after 100 were exchanged.

On the New York Stock Exchange the bank’s shares were up 83 cents, or 2.14 per cent, at $39.53.

The Royal Gazette/BSX Index was up 36.62 points, or 1.68 per cent, at 2,221.41.

The BSX Insurance Index was down 7.42 points, or 0.41 per cent, at 1,793.03.
