Butterfield shares advance

Shares of Butterfield Bank continued their post-earnings advance, gaining on the Bermuda Stock Exchange while the bank’s US-listed shares closed above $50 for the first time.
On the BSX, Butterfield gained 75 cents, or 1.5 per cent, to close on a new 52-week high of $49.75, as 1,000 shares changed hands.
On the New York Stock Exchange, Butterfield gained 24 cents, or 0.5 per cent, to close on $50.23.
On Tuesday, the bank announced net income of nearly $50 million for the second quarter.
The only other stock to trade on the BSX was Ascendant Group, parent company of Belco, which fell 1 cent to close on $16.49, as 100 shares changed hands.
The Royal Gazette/BSX Index rose 33.63 points, or 1.2 per cent, to close on 2,831.91.
