Butterfield Bank shares fell by $1.15, or 3.3 per cent, to $34 on The Royal Gazette/BSX Index after 1,330 traded.

On the New York Stock Exchange, the bank’s shares were down 32 cents, or 0.91 per cent, at $34.78

On the local exchange, a total of 1,749 shares of Ascendant Group were exchanged, but with no change to the closing price of $17.

The Royal Gazette/BSX Index was down 51.72 points, or 2.41 per cent, at 2,096.83, while the BSX Insurance Index was down 5.72 points, or 0.37 per cent, at 1,529.95.

In other news, Ascendant Group Limited announced it repurchased 121,861 of its own common shares at an average price of $17 last month. The company said the repurchased shares have been reserved for issuance.
