Shares of Devonshire Industries Ltd saw the highest gain in Bermuda Stock Exchange trading.

The company, owner of the Bermuda Paint Company, gained 40 cents, or 11.3 per cent, to close on $3.95 on the trading of 1,200 shares.

Butterfield Bank advanced 70 cents, or 2.1 per cent, to close on $34, as 350 of its shares traded.

The bank’s US-listed shares had an even better day on the New York Stock Exchange, gaining $1.36, or nearly 4 per cent, to close on $35.42.

Insurer BF&M Ltd was another stock to climb, gaining five cents, or 0.3 per cent, to close on $17.05 as 5,000 shares changed hands.

The most heavily traded stock, Somers Ltd, was the only one to fall on the BSX. The financial-services holding company dipped 20 cents, or 1.3 per cent, to close on $15.30, as 10,000 shares traded.

The Royal Gazette/BSX Index added 30.7 points, or 1.45 per cent, to close on 2,153.31.

Trading volume amounted to 16,550 shares, while turnover totalled $254,890.

The BSX Insurance Index fell 5.75 points, or 0.35 per cent, to close on 1,625.07.
