Asian job seekers prefer Western employers
Job seekers in Asia prefer to work for Western companies, according to a survey on job seekers’ preferences.American companies topped the league table with 78 per cent of respondents putting it as their preferred choice, followed by British companies at 73 per cent, reported The Business Times in Singapore. The top four was rounded off by Australian (67 per cent) and German (62 per cent) companies. Hong Kong (38 per cent), Taiwanese (32 per cent), Chinese (30 per cent) and Indian (28 per cent) companies ranked the lowest.Japan was the highest ranked Asian company, followed by Singapore. The survey - conducted by Aon Hewitt and JobStreet.com - collected the responses of 14,000 job seekers in South-east Asia and South Asia.‘What strikes us is how far the Asian companies are in terms of being the preferred employer,’ said Yusuke Higaki, country manager of JobStreet.com Japan. The survey also found that 94 per cent of Singaporean respondents picked ‘excellent working environment’ as the most important attribute.“All things being equal, most job seekers would prefer not to join a Singaporean company because of the negative perception about the working environment,” said Rick Payne, regional practice leader, human capital, Aon Hewitt.“Such perception could become a huge stumbling block for Singaporean companies to attract top talent in the Asian region.”
