The job with Tim Kenny
Age: 49Role: Claims and coverage practice leader/compliance officer, Bowring Marsh (Bermuda) Ltd.What is your job? I act as a liaison among our clients, other Marsh offices and the Bermuda insurance markets when dealing with complex coverage and claims issues and serve as a wordings resource/advisor, as well as compliance officer. What is your favourite part of the job? The diverse nature of my responsibilities. Every day is different. Working with extremely talented colleagues. Serving the highest profile clients within the firm. What is your least favourite part of the job? I have given this a lot of thought and I really can't identify a “least favourite” aspect of my job. Each aspect has its unique challenges and rewards. What is your most interesting experience at work? For a number of years during the late 1980s - mid 1990s while at a Chicago-based insurance brokerage firm, I specialised in providing risk and claim management solutions to Major League Baseball teams. In addition to interacting with some very high-profile baseball team owners (NY Yankees, Milwaukee Brewers, Chicago White Sox, Atlanta Braves) I also travelled with the teams to their spring training facilities in either Arizona or Florida and delivered risk management seminars to team trainers, team physicians and CFOs on how to manage player injury claims. Suffice it to say that my fellow colleagues could never quite get over the fact that I was able to take business trips to Arizona and Florida each year and escape the freezing February and March temperatures of Chicago. What would you be doing otherwise? I was a language major (French) in college in the US and spent almost half of my four years of study in Europe. My initial plans after graduation were to pursue a career with a non-governmental organisation such as the United Nations, or with a US governmental agency such as the National Security Agency. However, those opportunities never really materialised.
