The Job with Aziza Ahad
Age: 25Role: Marketing executive, Digicel BermudaWhat is your job? I am the marketing executive at Digicel Bermuda. In this role, I am heavily involved in the day-to-day marketing of the company, executing any promotions we offer, securing media placements, maintaining a social media presence, script writing, coordinating talent, and assisting with internal communications. I work in the commercial department, along with the marketing director, commercial manager, products manager and marketing administrator. What is your favourite part of the job? I love seeing campaigns start as ideas and bloom into something tangible that we can share with the rest of the country. It is also really fun to discover the hidden talents within people; many of our TV and radio spots feature Digicel employees who take on new personalities behind the microphone or on camera. What is your least favourite part of the job? We have a lot of tight deadlines due to the nature of our business and the volume of promotions we offer. While deadlines can be stressful, making this aspect my least favourite, I have to admit that I actually enjoy the pace because there is never a dull moment! What is your most interesting experience at work? So far, my most interesting experience has definitely been filming with Usain Bolt in Jamaica. It was my first time working on an international commercial with a celebrity and it was pretty incredible to write a script and then be able to direct Usain Bolt and our CEO, Wayne Caines, to make it come alive. Plus, the filming of the treadmill scene was one of the funniest things I have ever witnessed. If you haven’t seen the commercial, you can find it on our 3G+ website.A close second would be the time we brought in the Miami Freerunners to promote the 3G+ launch. They completely defy what you think is humanly possible by completely conquering their surroundings, leaping from ledges, flipping around, and hanging off buildings. What would you be doing otherwise? Since I love what I do, this is actually a difficult question! I really enjoy being in the studio; I think I could quite happily do voiceovers all day. Inevitably, I would still want to do something where I could be creative and influence public perception, especially in a way that improves our community. I think contributing to the global community is also very important and I would love to travel and do marketing or public relations work with an international charity.
