Eight students begin Tech Leadership Forum programme

Business Development Minister Patrice Minors

Eight students will get an insight into the information communications technology (ICT) industry following the launch of the third annual Technology Leadership Forum (TLF) Internship Programme. The forum, which was launched by Business Development and Tourism Minister Patrice Minors, will see Matthew Coelho, Justin Tucker, Philip Roque Jr, Hannah Collins, Bryan Turner, Cornel Castle Jr, Tilhan Chitrananda, and Derwin Adams, take part in an intensive 12-week summer internship programme.During the course of the programme they will undergo classroom learning, team projects, and fieldwork as members of staff at a participating company. The TLF was founded four years ago due to an identified need for qualified Bermudian talent in the ICT sector and is run in partnership with private sector technology companies and organisations. The TLF comprises key influencers and leaders in the technology industry in Bermuda. Their prime objectives are to encourage dialogue, address issues, propose action steps, and to be a networking group amongst peers.Minister Minors said the TLF would help to address the shortage of experienced Bermudians in the IT sector, adding that half of the 2009 and 2010 interns have secured employment - a significant achievement considering that some of the former interns are also in the middle of their studies.“The Ministry of Business Development and Tourism, is excited to take the lead in sponsoring this initiative which serves to provide our youth with the opportunities and tools they need to help them succeed in the ever changing world of information technology,” she said.Sponsors and partners include Belco, Bermuda Hospitals Board (BHB), Quo Vadis, the Department of E-Commerce, ICS, RenaissanceRe, North Rock Communications, Logic Communications, Ignition and Bermuda College.Organisations and companies providing training include the Department of Labour & Training/Bermuda Careers Centre, the Department of E-Commerce, BHB, Belco, First Atlantic Commerce, PriceWaterhouse Coopers, Ernst & Young, Nova and RenRe.For more information on the Technology Leadership Forum’s Internship Programme visit www.TLF.bm
