The Job with Christopher DeFontes
Age: 32Role: Captive associate, Marsh IAS Captive SolutionsWhat is your job?On the captive side of Marsh's operations we manage many international companies' insurance needs. Our services consist of, but are not limited to, setting up companies for operation in Bermuda with the Bermuda Monetary Authority to ensure regulations are met, handling accounts, administration, claims, reinsurance claim payment requests and any reporting needs the captive companies we service may have. What is your favourite part of the job?My favourite part of the job is the satisfaction of being able to fulfill the requests and operational needs of the different types of captives that I work on which range from life insurance companies to companies that produce products used worldwide. What is your least favourite part of the job?I really don't have any aspect of my job I don't like. I have to admit that the lag time of our computer systems can be frustrating at times. I also have to admit that paper filing is not the most exciting part of the job. What is your most interesting experience at work? The most interesting aspect of my job is the meetings with heads of the companies we manage. I am always amazed at the energy and enthusiasm they have and it enforces my belief that positive things happen with a positive attitude. What would you be doing otherwise? If I wasn't working in the insurance industry I would like to be expanding my knowledge of qigong and acupuncture, as I prefer natural alternative medicine theories of the East. In addition, I would be mastering different forms of martial arts such Tai-chi and Kung-fu.
