The Job with Michael Fay

Michael Fay

Michael FayAge: 23Role: Public relations manager, emedia BermudaWhat is your job? I'm in charge of emedia's public relations services. My functions vary from day to day and client to client, but essentially I find ways to promote our client's businesses and brands by overseeing any communication a client wishes to make to the public. That could range from written materials (press releases, web and print ad copy, radio scripts, articles and advertorials) to organising press conferences and special events. What is your favourite part of the job? The variety. I have the chance to work on a whole host of different projects every day. Finding new ways to convey a client's message offers an exciting challenge as well as a great creative outlet. Public relations is a very broad field, and my job is to do whatever is needed of me on that particular day. I really like the diversity of it all. What is your least favourite part of the job? Regular work hours! I've never taken too well to the typical 9 to 5 workday. I've always operated on a very peculiar schedule; working late at night or on weekend mornings etc. It's just something I'll have to get use to!What is your most interesting experience at work? I haven't been at emedia long enough to be involved with anything too bizarre, but the way I received my job offer in the first place was quite the coincidence. I was rushing to the grocery store before it closed and practically collided with Jen (emedia's owner and managing director), whom I had done an internship with several months before. She was looking for someone to hire as public relations manager, and was interested in having me on board. Needless to say I leapt at the chance! What would you be doing otherwise? My ambitions are all over the place! But I guess if I weren't in public relations, I'd probably be doing something a little more artistic. I've always wanted to publish a novel, and I love music, film and photography, so I'd probably be pursuing something along those lines. Opening a restaurant with my family is another little dream of mine.
