Hiscox looking for graduates
Bermuda-based insurer Hiscox has launched its 2012 Bermuda Graduate Programme. Now in its third year, the 2012 graduate scheme offers a two-year training programme for Bermudians graduating from university this summer, or who graduated in 2010 or 2011.The scheme runs on a rotational basis, allowing graduates to work in different areas of the Hiscox business in the UK, US and Europe before returning to progress their careers in Hiscox’s Bermuda office.Successful applicants will have the chance to develop an in-depth knowledge of Hiscox, work on challenging projects and study towards a professional qualification.Bermudian Nicholas Thuell returned home in March after completing 16 months overseas as part of the 2011 graduate scheme where he was placed in UK and France and is now back in Bermuda working as a trainee reinsurance underwriter. This year Hiscox Bermuda is specifically looking to appoint a risk modelling trainee and an operations trainee. Both roles require bright, innovative and practical people with a grade-point average of 3.2 or above (out of 4.0) for US/Canadian degrees, or a 2:1 or first class degree from the UK.The risk modelling trainee, who should have qualified in, or be studying towards, a degree in maths, physics, engineering, environmental sciences, geology, geography or similar, will join a team whose objective is to enhance Hiscox’s underwriting of catastrophe risk to such a point that it creates a competitive advantage. The operations trainee will have a degree in any discipline (although a maths related discipline is preferred), and will join Hiscox’s operations team whose mandate is the efficient production and distribution of Hiscox’s services.“Now in our third year of running a graduate programme specifically for Bermudians, we are on the lookout for graduates who have the necessary academic and personal qualities, as well as a genuine interest in pursuing a career in the reinsurance sector,” said Christina Herzog, Hiscox Bermuda’s HR Manager.“In return we offer a high quality graduate scheme, the chance to work abroad and real career progression in a dynamic business.”Graduates interested in applying or learning more about this programme are encouraged to contact Ms Herzog at graduates@hiscox.bm for details and for more information on the two roles.Applications should include a CV together with a covering letter detailing what qualifies them for the scheme. The application period runs to May 31, 2012 and successful applicants will be required to start in September 2012.
