Interview techniques seminar hits the right chord with students
Business Bermuda’s second seminar in the College Student Networking Evenings summer series, held last week at the Argus Building, saw an increase of more than double the students attending last week’s seminar on resume writing.Interview Techniques, presented by Keith Szmierek and Melody Smith of Expertise Ltd, taught students how to prepare, what to expect, and how to excel in an interview.Ms Smith said: “The Interview Techniques seminar went extremely well. There was an exceptional turnout, and the students were engaged and asked excellent questions. In such a tough employment market, honing one’s interview skills can be the difference between getting the job or not.“Expertise really values being a part of Business Bermuda’s student networking events which are helping Bermuda’s young people jump-start their careers.”Cheryl Packwood, CEO of Business Bermuda, said: “Both Mr Szmierek and Ms Smith presented the students with insider information on how to excel in an interview. The students were given over 100 types of typical interview questions and practiced interviewing each other with assistance from the team from Expertise.“Interviewing for a new job can be a nerve-racking experience for anyone and even more for those who are new to the world of job seeking. This seminar gave students the information needed to build confidence, to prepare thoroughly, and eventually to succeed in landing a job to begin their careers. There were students in attendance with real, upcoming interviews, and several noted that this seminar gave them additional skills needed to do well.”As each seminar builds on the last, students who have attended the entire series so far will find themselves ahead of the competition.
