Bermuda Works: On Global Day of Giving, XL employees ‘share our time and skills’

More than 120 of XL’s Bermuda-based employees took part in the re/insurer’s eighth annual Global Day of Giving.They spent Thursday before the holiday working on community projects throughout the island, joining thousands of XL colleagues around the world .This year XL employees, dressed in company-branded matching T-shirts and hats, worked on more than 165 projects globally to address issues including education/youth development, the environment, homelessness, hunger and senior care.In Bermuda, 11 teams of XL employees engaged in a variety of projects for Agape House — Friends of Hospice, the National Museum of Bermuda, Bermuda National Trust, Bermuda Zoological Society, Eliza DoLittle/Daily Bread: Feed Bermuda’s Hungry Children programme, Meals on Wheels, The Reading Clinic, Summerhaven Residential Home for the Physically Challenged, The Salvation Army, Pembroke Parish Council and Victor Scott Primary School. All the projects were employee-led and organised.Amanda Outerbridge, XL’s director of Philanthropy, said: “Today we’ve achieved a lot — working close to 20,000 hours in our various global communities. At XL we believe giving is not just about dollars but it’s also about sharing our time and skills.“The Global Day of Giving enables us to connect with our communities in a meaningful way. In Bermuda participants love it — and we hope it shows the non-profit we volunteer for how much we appreciate what they do for Bermuda.”XL CEO Mike McGavick, said: “Communities around the world continue to face tough times. Through our Global Day of Giving, we are able to directly impact the communities in which we work, strengthen our relationships with partners, including charities and other non-profit organisations, and work towards developing longer-term solutions to some of the issues facing these communities. With XL’s goal to ‘make your world go’, we’re pleased to take this time to play a small role outside of the office in giving back to our communities.”
