Bascome to fight in Championship
Reigning Dynamic Fighting Championship Junior Middleweight champ Nikki Bascome will showcase his skills on the undercard of tomorrow night's 'All or Nothing' WBC & WBA Middleweight Boxing Championship, The Royal Gazette can reveal. The 21-year-old Bermudian amateur boxer has agreed to step in as a last-minute replacement for compatriot Chris Wilson who was forced to withdraw through injury. The orthodox boxer, whose amateur record stands at a perfect 9-0, will take on Canadian Justin Garant at Fairmont Southampton in Wilson's absence.Confirming the late development, an event spokesperson told The Royal Gazette: “We've had Chris Wilson, one of the amateur boxers, drop out at the last minute off the card and as a result we have been able to secure Nikki Bascome as a replacement to box Justin Garant.“Nikki Bascome is Bermuda's best amateur boxer. He was scheduled to be off the Island at this time but luckily for us he is here and is willing to step in. We have been trying to get Nikki for six months on this card but we couldn't because he was going to be away.“Nikki is a seasoned boxer who will most likely go pro next year. And we are fortunate to have him on this card and look forward to this bout.”Bascome, who will be joined in his corner by trainer Allen (Forty) Rego, captured the Dynamic Fighting Championship Junior Middleweight belt after prevailing against Kirt Alphonso via a unanimous decision in Florida last August.
