Famed American boxing referee Steve Smoger rated Saturday’s ‘All or Nothing’ WBC & WBA middleweight unification championship bout between Teresa Perozzi and Tori Nelson among the “finest” women’s middleweight fights in which he’s officiated.The United States Air Force Reserves Lieutenant Colonel and Atlantic City Municipal Court Judge had the honour of refereeing the electrifying ten-round bout that ended in a majority draw.“I’ve been fortunate to work several female middleweight bouts and this was one of the finest middleweight fights that I have ever officiated,” Smoger told The Royal Gazette. “The fight was highly competitive, the girls fought every minute of every round so they fought the full 20 minutes which was terrific.“They both fought valiantly and neither girl ever complained and they showed true professionalism.”Smoger, who has refereed major fights in the past involving big acts such as Evander Holyfield, Mike Tyson and Felix Trinidad to name a few, said local fight fans were served a special treat as Perozzi and Nelson traded blows in the ring all night.“The fans witnessed the highest level of female professional boxing,” the New Jersey resident said.“Last evening was the top female bout in the world and I would like to thank the promoters for bringing it here.“It was a unification of two major titles so the spotlight of female boxing was on Bermuda. And I would like to see the ladies do it again on this fabulous Island.”
