Judges beg to differ in Perozzi fight
The Bermuda Boxing Commission (BBC) are now in possession of the scorecards of the three judges who officiated last weekend’s ‘All or Nothing’ WBC & WBA middleweight unification championship bout between Bermuda’s Teresa Perozzi and American Tori Nelson that ended in a majority draw at Fairmont Southampton.According to the judges’ scorecards, submitted to the BBC by the WBC, in only four of the rounds were all three judges in agreement. All three judges scored it 10-9 in Perozzi’s favour in rounds 1, 3 and 6 and 10-9 to Nelson in the ninth round. In three of the remaining six rounds Bermudian Judge Vic Richmond was in the majority with one of the other two judges being in agreement with his scoring. In the fifth round judge Claude Paquette scored it 10-9 for Nelson, judge Lynne Carter 10-9 for Perozzi and judge Richmond 10-10.Richmond’s scores only differed to that of his fellow colleagues in two rounds, the 2nd and 7th.Carter (USA) and Paquette (Canada) both scored the fight 95-95 while Richmond scored it 98-93 in Perozzi’s favour.Perozzi (8-4-2) did enough to retain the WBA belt while the WBC belt, once held by Nelson (6-0-2), remains vacant. After slugging it out in the ring for 10 rounds Perozzi and Nelson both felt they had done enough to the win.“I definitely feel I won the fight and even more so now,” Perozzi said. “I was certainly the better boxer and clearly won the first half of the fight so I’d probably give her three rounds.”Nelson begged to differ.“I thought I had it won but obviously the judges thought otherwise,” she said. “I felt I did what I was supposed to do but I guess it wasn’t enough.”It still remains to be seen whether both fighters will agree to a rematch.
