Chioke Tucker’s professional debut could not have gone any worse after he suffered a thunderous first-round knockout at The Fairmont Southampton last night.

Tucker, the Bermuda heavyweight, was caught with a superb right hand by Martello Jones, his opponent from the MAS Academy of Martial Arts in Ontario, Canada.

There was no was back for the Forty’s Gym fighter, who lay prone on the canvas before struggling to find his feet, making the decision an easy one for Steve Smoger, the world-renowned referee.

“It was just a punch that caught me off balance,” a defiant Tucker said. “Everybody gets knocked down but that’s boxing. I felt like I could have carried on and I don’t know why they stopped it. This is heavyweight boxing and you get pounded all the time.”

Corey Boyce, the Controversy Boxing Gym fighter, had little trouble disposing of Drew Geoghegan, of MAS Academy, in the first round of their amateur heavyweight bout.

A Boyce left hook left a dazed Geoghegan trying to get through a standing count.

His corner, though, had already seen enough and threw in the towel before he could receive any more punishment.

“Some people said it could have gone on longer so they got their money’s worth but it feels good to at least get the win,” Boyce said.

“It kind of surprised me because I thought it was the end of the round but it was actually the towel being thrown in!”

Andre Lambe, the Forty’s Gym welterweight, suffered his third-straight defeat, going down on points to Jeron Gunness, of Beyond Fitness.

In a light heavyweight contest, Deondre Morris had just enough cunning to beat the all-action style of Lekan Scott, the Controversy Boxing Gym fighter, also by way of a points decision.

In a late inclusion to the night’s line-up in place of the cancelled super-heavyweight fight between Jason Clarke and Jason Lowe, Matthew Tannock outpointed Omar Dill in an entertaining welterweight contest.

Tyler Christopher, of Controversy Boxing Gym, convincingly beat Alpher Xian, the game Bermuda Karate Institute fighter.
