Undercard fights confirmed for Bascome bout
The Victualling Yard in Royal Naval Dockyard will play host to an explosive night of boxing, with five amateur bouts, plus a youth exhibition confirmed for the event, headlined by Nikki Bascome’s fight against Filipino Alvin Lagumbay on Saturday.
Bascome will make his debut at super lightweight in his first outing since winning the IBA International Welterweight Championship strap by defeating Mexican David Martínez via unanimous decision at the Fairmont Southampton last November.
The 28-year-old has vacated his IBA belt to free him up to pursue fights at super lightweight. Bascome’s stable-mate at Forty Rego’s Gym, Andre Lambe will also be lacing up his gloves in a bout against Deyshawn Williams, of Eastern Queen Boxing Club in New York. Mikey Parsons, of Controversy Gym, will take on Jack McGrath, of Eastern Queen Boxing Club while Jaylon Roberts will face Shaquille Leon, another Eastern Queen Boxing Club fighter.
In kick-boxing, Krista Dyer, of the Bermuda Sanshou Association, will meet Catherine Raptis, of Sitan Gym Muay Thai in Astoria, New York, while Ryley Mason, of the Bermuda Sanshou Association, will fight Gemma Fleming, of the Wat Gym in Manhattan.
Controversy gym will showcase a youth exhibition under the guidance of coach Leo Richardson, while junior boxers Otero Smith will take on Szaine Williams, of the BSA.
“We are so excited to welcome all of the participants for Fight Night Champion to this tremendous show in the Victualling Yard in Royal Naval Dockyard,” read a statement from Epic Entertainment.
“This will be a historic event, at an historic venue and we are proud to bring this stacked undercard to the island. It should be a great night so make sure to get there early so you don’t miss a minute of the action.”
