Andre Lambe has vowed to be more aggressive in his upcoming fight against Mexican Francisco Martinez at The Shed in Dockyard.

“I have different styles that I can fight, and my last few fights I felt like I’ve given these guys too much of a break,” the southpaw told The Royal Gazette. “This fight I am trying to be more aggressive, and you should see that this time around. I can be that way, so I just want to bring that out at this event.”

Lambe and Francisco will clash in the headline bout of the Casino Fight Night boxing card to be held at The Shed in Dockyard on February 15.

Lambe comes into the fight boasting an unblemished 11-0 professional record, while orthodox Francisco stands at 12-9.

Sizing up his opponent, Lambe said: “He is a seasoned fighter. He’s had 17 wins and a good bit of knockouts. He’s a tough Mexican opponent I expect to be aggressive.”

The fight will be Lambe’s first in nine months, having been out of action since his unanimous decision win over American Kenny Paklos in Dockyard in May.

While thrilled to have achieved the desired outcome, victory came at a cost for the 29-year-old welterweight, who broke his right hand during the battle.

“A lot of people didn’t know,” Lambe said. “I felt I could have knocked that guy out, but my hand was severely injured.

“It was like round two of three I broke my hand, so I was struggling with that throughout the fight, and then afterwards I just had to take some time off to let it heal.

“It’s definitely recovered and I feel like it’s where it needs to be.”

Lambe has kept himself in shape throughout his rehabilitation.

“It’s not like I wasn’t training. I’ve been training on and off here and there, so it’s not like I am taking completely off,” he added. “We’re tuning in and just getting the work done right now. So I am happy to be back after the layoff and just can’t wait to be back.”

Lambe’s upcoming fight is the first of what he hopes to be many in the new year.

“I’ve got a few fights planned for 2025 and looking to get some international fights as well, so we’re trying to make a serious push for next year,” he said. “I am excited and looking forward to it and looking forward to staying active again like I was before. I am just happy to be back and I plan to be consistently fighting.”

Included on the undercard is the light-heavyweight battle pitting Bermuda’s Saundre Simmons (5-0) against Mexican opponent Alex Perez (6-9).

“Mexico is known for some of the toughest fighters in the world and, based on the last performance of the Mexican we brought in [Sergio García Herrera], we had no choice but to go back to Mexico to get some real tough matches to give these guys a real challenge,” promoter Teiko Furbert said.

“You can expect some explosive fireworks with our double headliners here and we have Dash Simmons [Saundre], who has taken America by storm, knocking out all his opponents.

“This will be his first time fighting in Bermuda. He is Bermudian hailing from Somerset, so we expect the country to come out and support him and Andre and our undercard.

“We have an explosive line-up of kickboxing and Muay Thai from the Bermuda Sanshou Association going up against some international opposition from America.

“We are affording opportunities to our athletes that really deserve the chance to fight overseas opposition, so that’s what we look to do February 15.”
