Watch: Nikki Bascome weighs in for huge bout in US
Bermudian boxer Nikki Bascome has been featured live on television around the world during the build-up to one of the sport’s biggest fights of the year.
Bascome was centre stage in front of thousands of fans in Atlantic City to weigh in alongside American Tahmir Smalls, who he fights on the undercard of the huge unification fight between unbeaten rivals Jaron Ennis and Eimantas Stanionis.
The Bermudian weighed in at 148.6lb for the welterweight contest, 1lb heavier than his opponent, who will be favourite to retain his unbeaten record in the eight-round contest.
Leading up to the fight, Bascome spoke to The Royal Gazette about his hopes for the contest.
“It’s definitely an honour being on a big card like this,” he said. “I’ve taken it very seriously and prepared with 110 per cent effort because I know how big this opportunity is, so it's definitely an honour.
“I'm definitely excited for this opportunity and it’s a new experience for me going out to Atlantic City. I've never fought there before and just looking forward to this new journey. I am definitely enjoying the moment and just enjoying the experience.”
