Cruise firm on Island to recruit staff

Bermudians currently without a job have an opportunity to launch a new career with one of the world’s leading cruise lines this week.Representatives from Norwegian Cruise Lines will be on the Island not to deliver holidaymakers to our shores, but to seek out and recruit talented Bermudians wanting to work in the tourism industry. The cruise line will be holding employment orientation sessions at Bermuda College today, with job interviews scheduled for tomorrow. Posts available include cooks, bakers, bar and restaurant staff, as well as engine and deck seafarers. Staff from Norwegian’s employment office will provide an overview of the jobs available, outline the criteria for prospective applicants, review employment applications, commence the interview process, and provide general information about life on-board a cruise ship. The scheme was devised by the company in partnership with Government.Home Affairs Minister Michael Fahy said: “For the past several weeks the Department of Workforce Development in partnership with NCL has conducted an on-board employment recruitment process. As an on-board employee, Bermudians will join an international team and have an opportunity to meet thousands of people, build life-long friendships, learn new skills and ultimately bring those skills back home and apply them here in our own workforce.“Norwegian is currently searching for dynamic hospitality professionals to join their on-board team to bring their innovative and renowned freestyle cruising to life. Their ships visit some of the most beautiful places on earth, so we see this as an incredibly unique employment opportunity for Bermudians and we truly hope that people will take advantage of what’s on offer at NCL.“We are excited about the partnership that has been established, and we look forward to a productive working relationship with one of our longest serving cruise partners as we endeavour to seek innovative opportunities to get Bermudians back to work.”The employment briefings take place today at the Bermuda College Student Centre from 8.30am-12 noon and 1pm-4pm. Interview sessions will take place tomorrow. For more information, interested persons should visit the Department of Workforce Development or www.gov.bm to fill out an online registration form to reserve a spot for the orientation sessions.
