Wide-ranging union talks were held on Wednesday with David Burt, the Premier, along with several members of Cabinet.

Discussions ranged from upcoming negotiations, employee training, the impact of innovative technologies, planned revisions to Bermuda’s labour laws, and additions to restricted work permit categories.

Mr Burt was accompanied by Lovitta Foggo, the Minister of Labour, Community Affairs and Sport Wayne Caines, the Minister of National Security, and Wayne Furbert, the Minister for the Cabinet Office.

They held talks with the Bermuda Public Services Union, the Bermuda Union of Teachers, the Prison Officers Association, the Bermuda Police Association, the Bermuda Entertainment Union and the Electricity Supply Trade Union. The quarterly meeting was held at the Cabinet Office.

Mr Burt called the unions “invaluable partners” and said regular meetings were important for good industrial relations, while Ms Foggo emphasised the Government’s commitment to enhancing workers’ rights.
