Conyers donates $52,000 to support food programmes
The Bermuda office of international law firm Conyers has donated $52,000 to support food programmes run by four churches on the island.
Conyers said the donation includes $40,000 from the firm as the balance of its $100,000 pledge, made in March, to assist vulnerable members in our community who are negatively impacted by Covid-19.
It said the other $12,000 is a gift from the staff of the private client department and Conyers Trust Company, in lieu of their annual Christmas celebration.
Conyers will give $13,000 each to the Hamilton and St David’s Seventh-Day Adventist churches, Christ Church in Warwick, and the Cathedral of the Most Holy Trinity.
A spokeswoman for the firm said the Seventh-Day Adventist churches serve takeout meals to the community on Wednesdays, Christ Church serves lunch every day and breakfast on Saturdays, and the Cathedral serves boxed dinners seven days a week.
Already this year, as part of its pledge, Conyers has made donations to the Salvation Army, the Coalition for the Protection of Children and the Each One Reach One Back to School campaign, and also supported Paget Primary with a donation of laptops for remote learning, the spokeswoman said.
Lisa Spencer-Arscott, global head of human resources, said: “During this unique moment in history, it's more necessary than ever to come together and support those in our community who have been directly impacted by the Covid-19 crisis.”
Peter Pearman, head of the private client and trust practice added: “In this difficult year, the partners and staff of Conyers’ private client department and Conyers Trust Company are very pleased to donate the money that would have been spent on their holiday celebration to local church food programmes, which provide a critical service to those in our community who are most in need.”
