The anticipated global outlook from a leading consulting economist at the Chamber of Commerce AGM Thursday will include her take on how the world’s economic challenges might impact Bermuda.
This, from professional services firm, KPMG, whose chief economist at the firm in the UK, Yael Selfin, is scheduled to speak at the Chamber luncheon Thursday.
Ms Selfin’s keynote presentation will provide an overview of KPMG’s 2023 Global Economic Outlook and its implications for the Bermudian market.
Drawing from her extensive experience in economic consulting and research, the economist will discuss the economic challenges from a global perspective and make observations about how they may impact Bermuda.
Topics which will be addressed include:
•how governments and central banks are responding to inflation and other economic headwinds;
•pressures on businesses from reduced consumer spending and higher borrowing costs;
•outlook for consumer spending in response to the squeeze on real income;
•supply chain pressures; and,
•the possible impact of geopolitical tensions between the West and China.
Speaking ahead of her presentation, she said: “I will highlight the latest economic trends found in the report and our predictions for 2023, which can provide a good indication of what may lie ahead. ”The report can also provide business leaders with a greater understanding of current economic drivers, which can in turn, help with them developing robust strategies focused on the ultimate goal of sustainable growth.”
Chamber of Commerce CEO, Danielle Riviere, commented: “With over twenty years’ experience in economic consulting, she is uniquely placed to provide us with valuable insights into how events around the world could affect our local economy. We look forward to hearing her views on Thursday."
