Steve Weinstein, the chairman of the board of trustees at the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences, has been appointed to the advisory council of ClimateTech Connect, the first-of-its-kind global conference focused on climate resilience through technology that will be held in Washington DC next April.

Mr Weinstein, who is chairman of the board of directors of Itasca Re Ltd, is a former chairman of the Bermuda Business Development Agency.

ClimateTech Connect said it will bring together thought leaders, innovators, policymakers, and leading industry experts to explore the intersection of climate resilience strategies and technology.

Over the course of two days, conference delegates will experience keynotes, panel discussions, workshops, a product expo, innovation stage, and experiential networking, all designed to advance climate resilience through technological innovation.

The conference will be held at the Ronald Reagan National Building and International Trade Centre, located in the heart of Washington DC’s Pennsylvania Avenue Corridor, April 15-16.

“We chose Washington DC for its global significance, home to numerous embassies, think tanks, research institutes and key trade associations. We are thrilled to bring ClimateTech Connect to our nation’s capital,” said ClimateTech Connect CEO Megan Kuczynski.

“We are creating a master class programme, together with the ClimateTech Connect advisory council, to advance climate resilience through data-driven strategies and technology.”

She added: “Now more than ever, the insurance and financial services industries and the government, emergency management and built infrastructure sectors, need to have rock-solid plans for climate resilience in the face of the growing climate risk. This is a critical time for cross-sector partnerships.”

Other members of the advisory council include Francis Bouchard, managing director, Climate at Marsh McLennan; Raghuveer Vinukollu, head of Climate Insights and Advisory, Munich Re; Nigel Walsh, head of Global Insurance, Google; Anil Vasagiri, senior vice president, head of Property Solutions, Swiss Re; Lisa Wardlaw, president and founder, 360 Digital Immersion; Jacqueline Legrand, founder and CEO, Maptycs; Charlie Sidoti, executive director, Innsure; Francesca de Quesada Covey, chief of Economic Innovation and Development, Miami Dade County, regional innovation officer, Climate Ready Hub Miami; Lorcan Hall, senior adviser, UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network; Jiqiu (JQ) Yuan, chief resilience officer and head of Engineering, National Institute of Buildings Sciences; and Franklin Manchester, Global Insurance adviser, SAS.
