Bermuda Aquarium, Museum & Zoo (BAMZ) invite you to learn more about the origins of our island home at a free illustrated talk by Dr Bruce Rueger, visiting Assistant Professor of Geology at Colby College, Maine on Wednesday, June 18th. Sand Between Your Toes — Volcanic Sand, That Is, A Layman’s Glimpse of Ancient Bermuda: Fragments of the Volcanic Pedestal will take place at 7pm in the Education classrooms at BAMZ. St George’s and Somerset fans alike are both welcome to come and enjoy a wonderful afternoon taking a journey to Cup Match on Saturday, June 21st. Under the distinguished patronage of Mr and Mrs Eldon Raynor, Vernon Temple AME Church are hosting a Pre-Cup Match Teabreak and Fashion Show fundraiser from 4pm to 6pm at the Heron Bay School. This is an opportunity to hear details of past matches as conveyed by some of the legendary stars of Cup Match. Tickets are $100 for sponsors, $30 for patrons and $20 for general admission. One of the best places to enjoy a Bermuda sunset is from the water — which is why Discovery Wines have brought back their summer sunset cruise series aboard the Ana Luna. The first is a celebration of the start of summer with their Summer Solstice cruise on Saturday, June 21st. The boat will leave the dock at Grotto Bay at 7pm, returning at 9pm, and they promise to tantalise your taste buds with an hors d’oeuvres and wine pairing reflective of summer. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bermuda presents its second How Much Would You Pay to See Me …? Fundraiser. Local celebrities have volunteered to raise funds for the charity by doing a variety of crazy dares live on stage at Harbour Nights on Wednesday, June 25th. Each participant is aiming to raise at least $1,500 for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bermuda through encouraging members of the community to make a pledge to see them do their dares. The contestants for 2014 are Senator Jeff Baron, Wayne Furbert JP, MP, Ed Christopher (Town Crier), Principal Charles Joynes (Northlands Primary), DJ Bitsy (Hott 107.5), Kristin White, Andrew Griffith, Chris Famous, Don Burgess (Bermuda Sun), Dwayne Caines, Katie Arnfield (Miss Bermuda), DJ Chubb & Sherri Berri (Vibe 103), Fancy (Power 95), Brother Richie (Hott 107.5) and Gavin (Djata) Smith (Chewstick). There are 15 dares in total and these include spending a few minutes in a case of cockroaches, jumping overboard in a gown, kissing a pig, dressing in drag, acting like a dog and being wrapped in toilet paper. Expect a one-of-a-kind US Independence Day Celebration at Mickey’s Beach Bistro on Friday, July 4th. This will feature a special dinner menu at Mickey’s Beach Bistro, fireworks on the beach at 9.30pm, and live music at Sea Breeze Lounge. Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art invite you to join them in the Mezzanine Gallery for the opening reception of the exhibition, The Tucker Sisters: Under the Yellow Flag, from 5.30pm until 7pm on Friday, July 11th. Ethel Tucker (1874-1962) and her sister Catharine (1879-1970) made a huge contribution to the artistic fabric of the Bermuda life in the first half of the 20th century. Their entrepreneurial spirit left a beloved legacy, which still resonates today through memories of the Little Green Door Tea Shop and the gift shop on Queen Street, the Little Green Shop.
