A man who had to be extricated from underneath a car after a crash in Paget last night was today recovering in hospital.

A police spokesman said the motorcyclist was hurt in the collision on Point Finger Road about 10.15pm but his injuries were not life-threatening.

“Although his injuries were initially thought to be serious, after medical assessment they are now deemed non-life threatening and he is expected to be discharged in due course.”

He added: “It appears that the car driver and motorcycle rider were travelling in the same direction when the collision occurred outside the entrance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

“The rider involved, believed to be from Pembroke, ended up under the car and was extricated by Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service personnel.”

A Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said yesterday that the man was taken to hospital with “several injuries and abrasions”.

She added: “On our arrival it was discovered that one male patient was trapped under a car and we quickly responded with the use of extrication tools including high pressure lifting bags to raise the vehicle and safely rescue the patient.

“The patient received several injuries and abrasions and was transported immediately to KEMH for further assessment and treatment.”

Point Finger Road was closed while the scene was processed. Witnesses are asked to contact police on 295-0011.
