A teenage motorcyclist suffered a fractured jaw after his bike was in collision with a car, police said yesterday.

A police spokesman said the rider was taken by ambulance to the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment.

He added: “At last check earlier this morning he remained in hospital receiving medical care. The car driver was not hurt.”

The crash happened at the junction of Middle Road and Khyber Pass in Warwick at about 9pm on Tuesday. Police said a car driven by a 76-year-old Southampton man was travelling east along Middle Road when an 18-year-old man, from Warwick, was riding a motorcycle in the opposite direction.

The crash was thought to have happened as the car driver made a right turn on to Khyber Pass and the rider tried to overtake another vehicle travelling in the westbound lane.

Traffic was diverted over Longford Road and St Mary’s Road.

Police have appealed for witnesses.
