Pride celebration to be held this month

Bermuda Pride is to throw a beach party to celebrate the island’s LGBT people and supporters.

The organisers of the group said: “The founding principles of Pride are community and togetherness.

“Whilst the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic has meant that we have had to plan much smaller celebrations this year, embracing our founding principles during these difficult times is more important than ever.

“We hope the beach day event will be a safe and happy celebration for our LGBTQI+ community and allies.”

The event is scheduled for August 28 at Cooper’s Island in Castle Harbour from 2pm to 8pm.

A large group exemption for the party was approved by the Government.

Partygoers will have to have an in-date SafeKey to attend and masks will be required where a distance of six feet from other people cannot be maintained.

There will be hot dogs and burgers available from 5pm to 7pm, but people were encouraged to take their own food and drinks.

The organisers also backed the use of the WeHealth app, available free from the Apple App store and Google Play store, for contract tracing.

The special event was set up almost two years on from the island’s first Pride parade on August 31, 2019.

Anyone who wants to attend the party should RSVP to https://bermudapride.net before August 26.
