Bermuda Health Council hits streets to cheer up commuters
Bermuda Health Council staff held a roadside demonstration yesterday to boost public morale as Covid-19 continued to lay siege to the country.
The Bermuda Health Council said the five-strong demonstration of support on East Broadway near Hamilton drew a “lovely” response from commuters.
A spokeswoman for BHeC said: “The public was really accepting and open to us being out there.
“A lot of cars were honking and people were definitely intrigued by the messages we had.
“While we were outside the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute, one woman came to us and said that it was nice to see messages like ours, especially during this time of the year.
“For us it was just a chance to spread some positivity.”
Volunteers displayed signs which said “We know it’s been tough” and “We want you to know that we care” between 7am and 9am.
The spokeswoman explained that the pandemic had caused a major financial and physical impact around the world.
She added that the recent deaths, including the murder of two men at the Robin Hood bar in Hamilton on Tuesday and a fatal car crash on Wednesday, highlighted the need for compassion.
The spokeswoman said: “Right now everyone is pretty much overwhelmed and most of the time they just want someone to talk to or have a listening ear.”
Volunteers from BHeC will stage a repeat performance on East Broadway this morning.
